Hi there,

I am interested in moving to USVI in the next few years, and was wondering if anyone could tell me a little more about the healthcare system. I will be a licensed pediatrician soon, and would like to see what the system is like, how many doctors are on the island, and how you all feel about the care you have recieved. Thanks so much, any info is appreciated!
Take care...

Katy,

You can find a list of doctors throughout the USVI by looking in the VI phone book - go to http://viphonebook.com (It can be a bit hard to tell what island each person is located on unless you are very familiar with the geography.)

Haven't moved yet but am deeply immersed in researching the question of heatlh care as I have multiple medical issues. I chose to move to STX because the Visitors Guide description of the hospital there told me the equipment and most of the specialists I need to monitor my health were available on island, including an MRI. I know that should I need a pulmonologist, I will need to go to PR as there are none in the USVI. I must also travel to PR to have an implanted pump refilled (am trying to see if air ambulance insurance - a must for me -- will cover those flights).

Am on a frantic quest to find a doc that will write prescriptions for the narcotic painkillers I take in order to function -- will have only a 20 day supply when I hit the island so this is of critical importance. Will let you know how this experience goes.

Best,
HipCrip

Hello Katy,

Which island are you interested in?

Licensing information for the USVI call the Commission of Health's Office and request a licensing application. (340)774-0117

There seems to be about five pediatrians on St. Croix and six on St. Thomas from looking over the physicians listings. Some of the general health offices like Red Hook Family Practice and Cruz Bay Family Practice have pediatrics as well as other medical services. Dr. Pak and Dr. Boody, on St. Thomas, have been practicing here for I'd say over 20+ years each and they are both well spoken of. I think they both work at the government clinics and also have private practices (this might be the case with all the pediatricians in the VI, not sure??)
