Hi all - My husband and I are moving to STT in a few months for a short-term government job (<2 yrs). I have asthma and my asthma doctor is concerned about the medical facilities on the island in a worst case scenario situation. I've never had to go to the ER so i'm not too worried, but still want to have a contingency plan. I'm hoping someone can answer these questions for us:

1. Is there any 24-hour ER/urgent care facility?
2. Is anyone familiar with air-evac insurance and how it works?
3. If anyone knows a doctor there who knows anything about asthma and/or allergies, could you let me know?

Thanks! We love this message board and plan to be using it a lot more as our departure day gets closer.

Dear w: The Roy L Schneider Hospital is a JCAHO accredited facility with 24 hour ER. It is also the only hospital on St Thomas! 😉 You'll need to read the fine print of the air evac policy. Most state that they will take you to the nearest facility that has what you need and basically that means Puerto Rico. Dr. Audria Thomas 340-776-5507 is the asthma doctor. Also Dr. Adam Shapiro, who is an ENT, has an allergy specialist (PA, I think) on staff 340-774-8881.
