The Federal minimum wage law in the FLSA was indeed created to provide a living wage. The intended purpose is in the bill's language. The "entry level wage" mythical argument is an excuse cooked up to make the sanctimonious feel better. It has no basis in our legal history.

Please provide a link which states that minimum wage must be a "living wage".

Really "slaughtering" his business

Apparently it might be "slaughtering" his business.
His key and highly paid employees are leaving because they do not feel it is fair for unskilled employees to make the same salary that they do. His customers are leaving because they anticipate a price increase.

And he is being sued by his brother/partner.

So Sparty, how many successful companies have you started and run? How many employees? What did you pay them?

His brother suing him is unrelated to wage increases. He lost 2 employees. I'm just a working schlump. Have no desire to start a business, I work enough already. That said, I would not start a business if I intended on paying employees starvation wages. Lifting wages is good for all workers. How can more cash in pockets of people be a detriment to businesses who rely on others dispoable income?

If his brother wins then the company is looking at bankruptcy. His brother feels that he was undercompensated and is pushing for a stock buy-back.

I have no problems with him raising his employees wages to anything that he likes. It is his company. I disagree with the heavy hand of government being used to force a business owner to run HIS business in a manner approved by the government.

As I said before, if this was a successful strategy then why isn't everyone doing it? If you can count on doubling your profit by raising salaries then all businesses would do it. Or maybe the increased profits had nothing to do with increased salaries. Maybe it had more to do with the increased free advertising that he got because of his "stunt".

Minimum wage is nothing more than "price fixing", i.e. members a group colluding to artificially keep the price of a commodity high. I bet you hate price fixing when businesses do it but love it when labor does it.

Labor unions are nothing more than labor cartels. They work the same way. I bet you love cartels. Or only labor cartels?

Our country was not formed based on socialism it was based on freedom. Freedom is not telling people what to pay their employees. If you don't like the wages do something to change it. There problem is to many people want to tell you what to
do and what you should believe. Thats not freedom.

Also "socialism" surrounds us. Schools, highways, hospitals, prisons, etc. those damn labor unions and their 40 hour work week and on job safety. I long for the robber baron era.

how can you disagree with the fact that this country was founded on freedom for white male land owners? Is that up for debate?

I'm talking about the original subject of the post. The freedom to run your business the way you want. Do you want someone to tell you how to run your life and what is right or wrong. Why did race have to be added to the topic?

You said our country was formed based on freedom. That is not accurate. It wasn't formed on economic freedom either. Now, if you want to debate whether government now wields too much power in economic doings that can be debated.

has anyone ever determined what a "living wage" is? by whose definition is a wage livable.

some people live well on 20,000 while others couldnt see themselves living on less than 200,000.

I already stated it was in the bill. I'll be willing to find an easily googled link to a federal bill as soon as I see your link showing the intention was to provide an entry level wage, since you did make that allegation first.

Are you reading Obamas playbook? You know, fair share and all whether you earned it or not. My income is not disposable to those who don't deserve it nor are they entitled to it.

Sadly people rush to judge and put people in categories. This is not an Obama issue (I never voted for him). You have disposable income no? You know foe eating out? Movies? Etc? Maybe we should have a "check your GD privilege" button before posting. Small business relies heavily on disposable income.
