I moved to STT on a one way ticket, never having been there before, and $7,000 was sufficient for me. I stayed in a $75/night B&B for a week, then stayed at the Mafolie for a month for $900, then rented a $1,200/mo apartment (1st, last and security), and bought a $1,200 car. I also found a job within the first 2 days...and started making money after the first week, but didn't get paid for two weeks, so I was still living off of the money I brought down with me in that fist month. I didn't go hog wild on activities...did a coupla full day sails...bought some snorkel gear...brought drinks and stuff with me to the beaches...It worked out well for me. Now, that was 9 years ago, so you might wanna add another grand for inflation....

Nothing personal about your question at all but I'll give your question my best shot.

First, research this forum and learn everything there is to learn including moving stories.

Do a PMV. That subject has been covered ad nausea. A PMV is NOT a vacation but a serious effort to enable you to figure out if island living is or is not something you should pursue.

Some arrive here on a wing and a prayer without doing a PMV and do well, although I'd have to say that the majority don't. Others do PMVs but miss stateside amenities, can't deal with the local population and leave in some sort of disgust mode,

I assume you don't have children and you're contemplating solo?

Well, you can probably get by with $7K. Better that you spend $2K max on a PMV. Check out this forum bigtime before making any sort of a move. The grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence!

All the best in your research from someone who has lived here for over two decades. Cheers!
