Are the Mongoose a problem in the USVI especially in Saint Croix? What type of mongoose are they? Would they be a threat to a small Yorkie dog?

Mongoose in the USVI - no they are not a problem. They were a problem to the local snake population which pretty much no longer exist.

They do not attack people, cats, dogs, or any bigger animal. They eat rodents, bird eggs and the like. I am sure if a little dog attacked the mongoose, like any other animals it would defend it self, perhaps through biting.

Most times a Mongoose will run away when a human or dog comes close, they aren't like squirrels that sit and watch you while you watch them and then run off, mongoose generally don't want to observe you and run off into the bushes.

So, I don't think mongoose would be a treat to a little dog.

Most terriers were originally bred for catching rats, and the like. And they are tough little dogs unless you have a whimpy one, as a few of the Yorkies are.
