I talked with Maureen Ohare's grandson while I was living on St Croix and he stays at the house his family inherited from her. There is a famous basketball player who grew up on St Croix adn still has a house there, don't know his name though. There is also a musician who has a house on St Croix and a house in LA, can't remember his name either. There was an article about the musician in People magazine a couple years ago. But as far as St Thomas is concerned, I have no ideas about famous people living there. Goodluck in your search.

You can't possible forget Tim Duncan. A credit to his home and his sport (basketball).

Here are some more names: Victor Borge, famed Belgian pianist, lived on St. Croix; Leslie Caron's family lived(s) on St. Thomas and has the Caron make-up line and shop in C' Amalie. I think that Ms. O'Hara's house was around the Beeston Hill or above Golden Rock area of St. Croix. The basketball player you're referring to, I also forgot his name, lives around the East End of STX. The famed Baronness, whose house can still be viewed from South Shore/Grapetree/Divi, is on STX. The Baronness inherited the title from her husband. Fritz Henle, world renown photographer, lived on STX. One of the three partners of KKR lived on the east end of STX. Mrs. Alyce Kaiser, the wife/nurse of Henry J. Kaiser -- the billionaire who made his fortune during WWII with his shipyards in Oakland, CA --used STX as one of her residences. Geraldine Ferraro, I think she was the first woman to run as a VP, used to have a condo close to Reef Condos of STX. Another person, whose name escapes me, is a famous Jazz musician who played w/Duke Ellington; used to play at Buccanneer.

How's that for a short list?

I heard Kelsey Grammar (sp?) (Frasier) was born in STT, although he's in Hollywood now I think...lol.

I don't know if he was vacationing or what, but I'm almost positive NASCAR's Robby Gordon was on my flight to STT in first class two seats in front of me in Sept. I couldn't place him at first although he looked very familiar...but I'm pretty sure it was him...lol.

He was only on vacation in 1993, but Armond Assati, was at the Warehouse. I was playing pool and he and 2 other men were standing against the wall watching, and I said are you an actor, and he said, yes, and I said weren't you in Private Benjmane (sp) and he said wow, you have a great memory. and shook my hand. Then later I was at East Coast and he said, hello to me and bought me a beer. Love that guy. 🙂

.....Victor Borge was a Dane which is much of the reason he found his way to the islands.

I'm told that Walt Frazier and Meshach Taylor (Anthony on "Designing Women") both have places on St. Croix. The only one of the crowd mentioned so far that I've ever met is the aforementioned Contessa. I'm still trying to get an invitation to visit her place!

1. Gabrielle Reece spent a portion of her youth here.

2. I heard that Denzel Washington has a home on STJ, and of course, there's that country guy who married what's her name on STJ.

My wife had a talking role in the Made For TV Movie "Wallace". Does that count? If it is you can get her autograph. But we don't like stalkers

If you grew up in the 70/80's you might remember musician Jonathan Edwards (Sunshine go away today...don't feel much like laughing...) (and "We're goin' sit around the kitchen mama, and put a good buzz on...")He lives on STX and co-owns an artists studio/shop.

Walt Frazier is the basketball guy.

Kenny Chesney is the country guy.

Renee Zellweger is the country guy's girl (although that marriage is already kaput.)

Onika....you crack me up!

Leslie Caron's brother lives next door to me and she comes to visit from time to time.
We have had many over time that lived here as well as owned here.
Lawrence Jacobs from Welcome Back Kotter has his roots in St Thomas. He used to visit as well. His aunts were in my Mother's brownie troop.
Mike Kadish of the Buffalo Bills lived here with his wife Dianne.
John McVie of Fleetwood Mac owned and lived in a house out by Pelican Beach.
George Kennedy, can old western star was here as well.
Jan-Michael Vincent pretty much hit his bottom here before he sobered up! Remember him hanging on Back Street and seen him passed out on the steps by the gutter a night or two by Fat City!
There is rumor of Michael Jordan owning a house in Peterborg. It's not true, the real owner is Werner Scott, a player manager that comes here often and usually has some sort of sports star or the other with him. One of his frequent guests whom I met was Emmitt Smith. Another was Reggie Miller's wife and a friend of hers, wow!
The Mamas and the Papas lived here in the 60s.
Scott McKenzie (San Francisco (Be Sure To Wear Some Flowers In Your Hair)) lived here also. At least for a year.
There are more, they come and go all the time. I will post when I remember.

Forgot to mention that Maureen O'Hara had a place on St. Croix for many years. And opera singer Martina Arroyo has (or had) a villa there as well.

Alix, you caught me. Haha.
Anyway, they've had it annulled so maybe they would prefer if we just referred to them as "country guy" and "what's her name"?

Well, you'll enjoy this one.

A few years ago, STT was all hyped up about "Sinbad" coming here. There were signs up all over the place welcoming him. Even the place across the street from me had a big sign up saying, "Welcome, Sinbad!"

Well, I didn't have a clue who "Sinbad" was. Out of touch/sync, whatever, I had an outside sign made up which simply said, "Who IS Sinbad?"

My place was pretty much closed up a couple of nights later when a bevy of people stuck their faces against the door. My dear frend Alli (a fellow Brit) was working with me at the time and she tentatively unlocked the door,

"So who here doesn't know who Sinbad is?" asked this huge muscled black male who looked as though he could crush a rock with his teeth. We both started laughing but said that neither of us knew who he was. Well of course we let them in - they were all a part of Sinbad's entourage - bodyguards, etc. They stayed for a couple of hours, had a great time and said that they were just checking out the place after having seen the sign.

A couple of nights later, Sinbad came in by himself, probably just curious. If he was looking for a place to just chill without being bothered, he certainly got it. He DID, however, insist on having his photgraph taken with me with the, "Who IS Sinbad" sign between us.

I subsequently learned about who he is and what he's done.

He's certainly not the first "celebrity" I've met - very far from it - and I'm sure he won't be the last.

I guess my point is that "celebrities" have a right to privacy and I think that many of them are able to enjoy time here in the Virgin Islands because it's an incredible melting pot of people from different walks of life and different cultures. We really don't care from where you come or what you are.

What we DO care about is that you treat us with respect in the same way that we afford you that same respect, then we all be cool.

A very merry Christmas to everyone, combined with a most joyous and happy New Year!

Angelina Jolie is currently renting one of the mega yachts that park in St Thomas. She has been seen shopping downtown inthe jewelry stores quite often and gives autographs to fans...

George Steinbrenner (sp) is in one of the ships parked there also. He has had several celeb friends visiting

last winter one of Joe Pesce's cousins (Frankie) had his yacht (Inside Straight - huge, but not the prettiest thing afloat from the outside) moored at the marina in C'sted on STX. Rumor had it that Kevin Costner spent several months on the yacht while it was here. Now the yacht has been moved to the BVI's, but Frankie is still on STX and is the owner of the new restaurant that will open in the renovated King's Alley Hotel once it's done. He's seeking other biz opps on the island, too, so perhaps will bring in a few more Hollywood connections over time.
