We are relocating to St. Croix in July, and would like to bring our 27' sailboat down after hurricane season. Has anyone done this? Any information and recommendations would be appreciated (shipping companies, delivery crew, costs, etc.)

We were in STT in January and saw one of those large container-type ships that open their bow/stern and float sailboats into the ship. Then, they close the access, I guess the water recedes and the sailboats are secured. Ship was in Crown Bay and we talked to some folks at Tickles about this who said that the ship was transporting boats to/from Florida. I don't remember the name of the ship but here's a URL that I found on the subject of: transport for boats to the VI http://www.sevenstar.nl/content/findyacht.asp?titlemanu=7

the ship is called dock express. The agent in St. Thomas is Deliver It-340 776-8660. they only come a few times a year, so you may want to ship the boat down sooner and haul it out of the water in Sept. for the worst part of hurricane season, or just wait for a warning and pull the boat out then. I would be very wary of anyone offering to sail the boat down for you. 1000nm is a long way to travel on a small boat and anyone willing to do it may not be "all There".

There are companies who specialize in deliveries of this nature. Email me and I will send you some names.
