Hi all,

I intend to move to the islands in 2011.Of course I have many questions. Having lived in the Caymans for 5 years, I have a good idea
of some of the details of island living.....What I am seeking here are some specifics. Not being sure which island I'll end up living on,
I'd like to know how difficult it is to move a car from one island to the next. Do the ferries carry cars or must I barge from one to the next?
I will come down to do more recon over the course of the next year , I'm just trying to get organized. Thanks.

Hi blackbolt7,
Welcome! It is very easy to move a car, via car ferry/barge, between St. Thomas and St. John. Not so much to St. Croix. It's doable, but only if you are making a move, or perhaps buying/selling a car. Many people who live on St. John take the car ferry over to STT for their bi-monthly (or whatever) shopping trip. We lived on STT for 12 years, and we took our car over to St. John several times just to enjoy the island. I don't remember exactly, but it was $50, or more R/T. To ship a car from STT to STX, it is around $280, and there is paperwork involved, and you cannot travel with the vehicle (unless you have an animal in the car). Hope this helps.

The car barge between STT and STJ costs $50 RT during the week, $40 RT on the weekends.

As an aside, I was just reading an article about the big exodus from Cayman The article said everyone is going to Ireland.
