Hey Guys! I just found this board, and I really need some good general advice. This January, I am planning on moving to St. Thomas with two friends. From what I understand, the best way is just to get down there and then look for a jobs and a place to stay. Just a few questions though......How easy is it to find a furnished apartment/cottage? How about plane tickets --- should I just buy one way or go ahead and do round trip and just a pick a random date to return. We are thinking of staying 6 months. Any general advice on where to live or the best way to go about finding a job would be great. Ideally, we would like to work at a resort but we are pretty much up for anything. We are all a year out of college and just want to do something like this before we get settled in and stuck!

Hello John,

Welcome to the board.

For the plane ticket; unless the one way is considerably cheaper then the round trip I would say buy a round trip with the return date the furthest date from your departure date allowed for the lowest fare you are looking at. Sometimes when the return date is more then 30 days or more then 60 days the price changes, sometimes it doesn't matter.

The Ritz is one of the resorts that posts its jobs online. You can look at

https://www.ritzcarlton.com/corporate/employment/search.asp?

Prepare your resume and contact the human resource dept. at some of the resorts, see if they have openings, see if you can fax your resume or once on island stop by and bring it. At restaurants, dive shops, stores - you might stop in and ask for the manager or owner, see if they are hiring. Also ask around, check the paper.

Good Luck.
