Hi everyone! Moving forward with all of the PMV logistics. So I had a question for all of you that have moved to the VI. When you moved, did you arrange for an apartment ahead of time, or did you show up on the island and just stay somewhere until you could find a place to move in?

I don't want to do a lot of extra work in trying to find a place from the mainland if my chances are pretty slim, and it would just be easier to rent a room for 3 weeks while we found something that was available.

We are looking to go to STX.

Thanks!!

Michael -

Welcome to STX!

We were lucky enough to hook something up from stateside, but to tell you the truth, even on island it is sometimes difficult to get people to call you back on a rental. If you already have employment lined up, that seems to help quite a bit....

When do you plan on being here?

I would try to line something up from the mainland since what you will pay for a week in a hotel will be more than your monthly rent. You shouldn't have a problem renting from over there.

But if you need someone to go look at it and email you photos, etc. let me know. Just cover my gas and I'll do it.

When are you coming, for how long, what do you need--space, etc? Budget? Smoker?

Our PMV is end of may, early June. We are coming anytime after the first week of September and before the end of October. Willing to pay for September as well if that is what it takes (even if we don't live there).

Thanks so much for the offer Stu!

I will be bringing my work with me, so no problems in that department. Looking for something that is 2 or 3 Bedrooms and furnished (or partially furnished). Neither of us smoke, but we do have two well behaved felines that we will be bringing with us. I have budgeted about $1200 or so for rent on the island, although cheaper is always better! Not looking for anything special, just something in a nice area that is decen.

Can't wait. Wish we could come earlier in the year!

I lucked out! On my last visit to STX we met some very nice and helpful people. They had suggested that we rent before purchase and gave us some names of friends that they had that had places that they might rent. We found a nice rental at a great price. We are relocating end of June and looking forward to being islanders. Keep writing and talking to people, they are very friendly and willing to help. Good Luck

Everyone has been so very, very friendly it has just amazed me. I can't wait for the PMV so that we can get even more excited.

I have emailed a few people and found a place that we can stay for 2 months with our 2 cats from September through October. I figured that we would just find a more permanent place to live once we are on island.

It was a lot easier than I thought!

Hello all....

It may be a bit early to ask but here goes. Does anyone know anyone who may have a studio or one bedroom for rent, end of September or first to middle of October? I will be a single female, no pets, on STT. Just thought it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Thanks in advance!

Pink
