For newcomers: The best way of finding apartments is to get on island and check the board at Connections. The best way to find a restaurant job is to go to a restaurant and ask if they need help. Once you've been on island for a little while, the best way to do both of those things is via word of mouth.

The best way to find a place to live and work on St. John is to be here. Not saying it can't happen, but Craigslist rarely has much on it. All of the good jobs go before they make it to an actual 'posting' of any kind. Bartending jobs are harder to get because they are sought after. Being ON ISLAND is the best way to get a job. Just start walking around and filling out applications and dropping off resumes is the best way to go.

For a place to live, again, best to be here. You really need to see the places and pictures leave a lot of things out. You need to visit the apartments, see what kind of neighbors are around, what kind of hills you have to climb, etc. If you won't have a car, then your choices are more limited. Closer to Cruz Bay usually means more $$$. Also usually means more crowded.

I would apply everywhere, but some places that would be considered great as far as earning potential would be, Zozo's, La Tapa, Lime Inn. La Plancha del Mar is also in the process of opening up in a much larger location and will be hiring a ton of new staff. Their food is excellent and I expect them to do really well. They will be moving to Mongoose Junction in the old Paradiso spot. They plan to open up there this month.

Good luck!!!
