Hello all!

I recently accepted a job in St. Thomas and will be relocating from Texas to the US VI! I am asking for any advice or guidance on finding a suitable apartment for around $900 a month, a 12 month lease and furnished (however I am open to unfurnished options as well). I have been looking on realty sites as well as craigslist and have only been semi-successful on finding options. If you know of a place or of an agency to help me secure an apartment it would be greatly appreciated.

Also I am open to any advice anyone can give to a newcomer relocating to St. Thomas. I look forward to your responses!

J.Shaw

I'm assuming you will either be bringing a vehicle with you or buying one when you arrive on Island. The best advice I can give you is look at the North side of the Island. They have apartment for rent signs posted all over the place along the sides of the road. Some don't even require a lease or background check, just money up front. Now this would also depend on where your job would be located.

Pick up a copy of the VI Daily News and The Island Trader when you arrive.
Island Trader comes out every Thursday, is an advertising periodical, is free and lists apt. rentals, cars, furnishings, etc. for sale.
You won't want to have a long daily commute to work so choose a location that's convenient. Not sure you'll find a fully furnished apartment for $900.
When buying a car, be sure to take to mechanic to have it checked out.
Good luck.

To put it into perspective, a long commute on St. Thomas would be about 45 minutes versus in the states would be about 2 hours. You can from one side of the Islands to the other in about 45 minutes depending on traffic and avoiding down town, which locals try to avoid like the zika virus especially when it's cruise ship day.

Welcome to the VI! I would sincerely urge you to get a short term spot like at Ronnie Lockhart's http://www.crystalpalaceusvi.com/. It says B & B, but he does short term newbie rentals...Until you are familiar with where you are working, where your recreation centers are, etc. ignore those who say a certain area is best. (I'm sorry MD Mike, not everyone wants to live on the moldy northside. LOL)
