Moving to St Thomas

My Husband and I are looking to move and have many questions as we are in our investigation stage. We want to run a business. We need to get out of Michigan and want to move to the island. I would love to run a charter company however, I am sure this may be a highly competitive market in St Thomas. Any thoughts on this? I would also like to have a vendor stand of some type on the beach for the visitors does anyone know how I can inquire about this? Or even if it is possible.

Thanks

Pretty impossible to get a vendor stand on any beach down here. Can't help with Charter businesses.

Best Advice is if you want to start a charter business or a restaurant or a beach bar, etc... Come down here and live here and work for a year in the business you want to start. Its much harder to start a business here and to figure out and to have the starting capitol. Working here for a year first will also give you a chance to make contacts, which is how you do ANYTHING down here. Plus you might actually have a day off or two this way. You'll learn how to run the business and see if you really really want the hassle. Most people move down to slow down, with a business like that you will work yer fanny off. 🙂 Best of Luck.

I would add one more thing to Bett'ys good advice. Come down for a PMV and get your ducks in a row before you spend big $$ on the move. But come down not to party but to act as if you are living here. Line up the job, get an apartment, see what the capital needs are, etc.

What you see from a distance may not be what it is really like!

Then if all that comes into place then come on down.
