Any advice on the best time of the year to move to STJ? Are there more rentals available during the summer or fall? Also, how easy is it to find employment on the island for someone with some college? What kind of jobs are available?

What are your skills? Housing is quite expensive in STJ but you could always live on the east end of STT & ferry to work.

My family has vacationed on STJ many times during the last 10 years, so we are pretty familiar with costs. Two of us would like to find a studio or one bedroom apartment to rent on STJ if possible. We are looking for jobs in the hospitality industry, property management companies, construction, landscaping etc. Any advice?

Kaye, the best time to move is subjective to your needs and available funds. I moved down in August, traditionally it is slow then. Apartments are easier to find. However, jobs are not quite as easy to come by then since it is slower here in the summer months. Businesses start hiring for the busier winter months after October. I was job hunting for two solid months before getting hired. Cash is king for that reason. Hopefully you will have the cash to buy a vehicle, it makes life so much easier here on STJ, in spite of this island being known for hitching. I do know people that hitch rides every day, they are also late to work just about everyday also. You can find a job if you are here, but you need cash to live on until you get hired. Sometimes as much as a few months. Plus, do not come with credit card debt! Have your finances right before moving.

The main thing needed here are people that show up, show up sober, show up on time, and do what they say. Is it too much to have a good work ethic? Sorry for the mgmnt rant.

Spend time reading everything you can on this website. Find all the types of companies you are interested in on the net. However, I would be willing to bet you will not get hired until you are here on island. Plus you will not find an apartment until you are here. So you will need a temporary place to stay. I could give you some ideas on places for temporary stays if you PM me.
