My boyfriend and I are moving to STX and are looking for a CHEAP place to rent, long or short term, that is close to Seaborne Air Base (Christiansted). Budget is around $500/mo. No problem signing a lease and no problem with deposits. Size isn't important, as we are leaving most everything behind. Price IS important, though. Needs to be within walking distance of the sea-plane base.
We are also very interested in a house-sitting (Maintenance, etc) opportunity in exchange for rent if one is available. I own a travel company, and he is a pilot.
Also, we both have vehicles here in the US, however, after reading these threads, we are thinking of selling. They are both paid off. So, I'm betting that $3-$5000 would go a long way on buying a newer car there?
If anyone has any hurricane-damaged property (large homes/land) that is fix-up-able, we are interested if the price is right.
Oh....another odd question....are there any beaches on STX that topless/nude sunbathing is "OK"? I know about STT as I lived there last year, but, am unsure about STX.
This forum is fascinating, and I have had a great time reading through it all.
Any comments, questions, etc are appreciated.

Ohhh...also, I want to fulfill my dream of a fishing job. I have for many years wanted to be employed on a fishing charter/head boat. More than happy to just cut up bait and clean decks. PLEASE let me know if any of you can "hook me up" with someone that needs a chick deck hand. I'm smart, funny, and love to fish.

Also, after reading more and more posts, I am now realizing the illegality of nude sunbathing. However, I am wondering about some out-of-the way places that we could visit and:
1. not offend anyone
2. not be bothered by police, etc.
3. not offend anyone
4. be alone
5. not offend anyone......
You get the point.....if not, OK....I would prefer to abide the law than be in trouble or offend anyone. *smile*

jacks and isaacs bays on the east end of the island. other remote [sometimes takes a hike to get there] sort of beaches. enjoy!

Thanks a bunch. Hoping for replies on cars and rent too. I'm scared to death after reading futher that I am going to get "yelled at" for the topless stuff. Ouch.

Hello Alix,
You thought you'd get yelled at for asking a question. Eeeek. 😉 Yeah the topless question has from time to time become a little heated... some folks feel strongly about nude/topless bathing being illegal and respecting that and others don't. We are a friendly bunch though so don't worry about it.
Cars - yes you can get a good used car for $3-$5000.
