Hi. My husband and I are moving to St. Croix in about a month. We're in our early 30s without children. I'm having difficulty finding a home rental that will allow pets. (I have one declawed cat and one 5lb Pomeranian dog.) We were married on st. Croix and visited there once after that as well. Any tips for us? anything would be appreciated, since this is all such a new experience.

I had the same problem, called a realtor and asked if she has any rentals that allow dogs and she had one. I am currently in a short lease for now. Check with Valerie Sheppeard-Hankins she is amazing and may have something.
I was told pet friendly is hard to find so secure a rental before you come! Even if it isn't everything you want, sign a short lease if possible and you can always extend it or find something better. Best of luck.

Craigslist isn't used as much here as in the states but it is picking up. My wife and I found our place through there. There's also a St Croix Buy or Sell page on FB. Post on there for what you're looking for.

There are quite a few scam rentals on Craig's List so beware, especially if it says it includes heat, fireplaces, typhoon shutters, basement or parking garage to name a few.

Not sure plopping money down on something sight unseen unless
it's thru a Real Estate Agency is a good idea as if it's a scam, you have no recourse.

Best to go with a Realtor that knows the island and proximity to where you'll be working. Good luck.

There are scams on Craigslist. Alana33 is right but those scams exist everywhere. Just be smart and meet someone to see the property before deciding and giving any money. Sticking solely to a realtor will limit you in some ways. There are many properties people rent out that are not associated to any realtor because those realtors take a fee or percentage to list and advertise. Just be smart and see places and meet landlords before money is exchanged.

Good luck

See if you can find an online copy of the Crucian Trader.
It's a free weekly paper that has a classified ads section for rentals.

I'm in my third pet friendly rental in 3 years. Online go to Calabash Realty, St. Croix, it has the most up to date rentals and lists whether or not pet friendly.
