moving to Styx

I will be moving to Styx in the next four months along with my family and had a couple of questions. What are the best private schools to look at, what is the fastest way for my son to meet some children and make friends and finally is there a health club there or a place to work out?

Thanks,

See you soon.

Styx? That's in Hades, isn't it?

C'mon, St. Croix can't be THAT bad...

Sorry, couldn't resist. : )

At first, I thought they meant the restaurant/bar!

OK, if you're moving to St. Croix, at least get the abbreviation correct. It's STX! There are 2 private schools on island. Country Day and Good Hope. I understand that tuition is quite expensive (although I don't know that for a fact-I don't have kids in school). As far as working out (gym's etc.), there used to be 2 gyms on island (Paradise Gym-one is Christiansted & Fredriksted), but I think they're both closed now. What age is your child and what are his/her interests?

Hi Migiz
Don't get chased away by all the good natured comments regarding the abbreviation of St Croix. Even the name has changed over the years. Saint Croix, Santa Cruz...you get it.

TxSissy is way off when she says there are only two private schools. Actually there are about 12 or 14 private schools. Good Hope and Country Day are the two largest and are well thought of, but St Josephs thinks they have a good program as do several other church affliated schools.

I think you can get a list on this web site, if not try gotocroix.com , the list also includes contact information.

How old is your son? We are trying to find a pen pal for our son aged 9. We are hoping to move during the summer and begin the next school year there. As some others have said, there are several great private schools on the island. Also, from another post, there are references made to two good public schools as well. However, from what I have gained from this MB, public is not the way to go. Save up your $$ and plan to factor the private school tuition into your cost of living on island.

Get in touch if your son would like a pen pal and he is relatively close in age to mine. Our email addie is [email protected]

Good luck!

Tamara

There is a gym on St. Croix - Beeston Hill. It has Aerobics classes, cardio area, weight area, a pool, child care while you work out and gymnastics classes for kids. They have been running a special for memberships at $45 or $80/couple.
