Hi Everyone!

Warning!!! This may be a long post 🙂

Ive been lurking on this board for a long time, and the time has come to say hi to everyone cause my dream is finally coming to fruition! Im gonna be a local in no time!!

I have been visiting the islands since before i can rememeber, vacations and living there. My family lived on STT for 7 years until hurricane Marilyn blew us off island about 10 years ago. I got to come stay on STT for 8-10 weeks a year from 1991 to 1997, most of it as a college student. I fell in love with the culture, the people, the music, the environment..Everything!! Our family still has some land on STT and i have been forming business possibilites for a long time and trying to come up with a way to make a home in the caribbean a possibility! For the last 2 years i have gone back to school, taken classes, and been involved in the solar field. Now im partnered with a solid business offering the best of everything that is comitted to bringing our busness to the territory! Primarily Solar Photovoltaic Panels and solar hot water heaters.

Did you all know that the USVI is currently paying more per kilowatt than anyone else on any US soil in the world! 32-36 cents/per kilowatt is terrible. This # is based on $80/per barrel, so its only a matter of time before cash strapped WAPA decides to raise rates again. Its time to start using the best energy resource we have.. The SUN!!

I just got back from ST Croix yesterday, I spent 3 days at the Ag-Fair over there and it was an incredible sucess. The people have spoken and told us something! We got almost a hundred contacts of people who are sick of their WAPA bill. The cost of energy is completely out of control and it looks to only get worse. $100 per barrel of oil is now a reality, with no signs of letting up. The VI Energy office and WAPA are finally starting to see the problem. Net metering and new rebates are in effect to make solar energy solutions an economic possibility! 10 years ago the payback for systems was 15+ years. Today, its 8 years or less.

Im sorry, i dont mean for this to be a business plug or anything, and im not giving out numbers or names but Im just super excited about the possibility of being able to move to one of the most beautiful places on earth, and being able to help people. I guess the reaSon im posting is becasue i need alot of advice from the long timers!

I will be coming back down in about 6 weeks to follow through on all the contacts we gathered at the ag-fair and to inquire about my living arrangements. I plan on moving to STT in August or September and be there for at least 8 months out of the year.

I will be renting an apartment for at least a year or two while i get my businees going and a house built on our land. I would love to find a nice place preferably on the north or east end of the island to rent. I would be interested in making a deal to put a solar electricity system in exchange for rent or making a deal along those lines.

Any ideas, feedback or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Respect to all

Cory

Do I have a deal for you......I'd rather discuss on the phone...but a few things ,so you will know what I am offering...I've recently purchased a home on the north end of the island, but will not live in STT full time for about 2 more yrs.....and like you my husband and I are amazed that few people have solar panels...our house does have solar hot water..but we plan on converting the entire property to solar...and have actually already had a local come view the property and give us an estimate....if you are serious about trading solar for lodging..I do have a small studio on the property that is newly advertised for rent ...I can send photos ,if interested...you could have this private studio in one of the nicer neighborhoods on island,Estate Elizabeth....near Sib's and Mountain Top.
Trade for a long term studio (all inclusive)..water/electric..phone/cable & Internet access. Your posting sounds as though this can benefit both of us....if you are interested you can call me today 340-779-1813..I am on island until 28th..as I return to the states for a few months...I have already rented the one bedroom apt. to a traveling nurse, and the main house to a couple just relocating here ..she works at the university and he is a boat captain in French town....I have the studio remaining... does this sound like a deal? let's talk!

Hi Cory,

My husband would be very interested in getting involved somehow in the solar business. Would you mind PM'ing me and we can talk more in depth about it.

I will keep my eyes and ears open here on STT for housing in Aug/Sept.

Thanks,
