Hello,

Me and My husband are leaving in 2 week to relocate to the virgin islands. We have been told that it is best to find somewhere to live once we get there. My question is what Island is best to live on? We are going to be Nursing students so we are going to be on a tight budget, where can we find a relatively cheaper place to live but still in a relatively safe area? Where should we start looking? We are only bringing clothes and neccesaties so we would like to get a furnished place. any advice would be most helpful thank you!!!

Which UVI campus? I know the nursing program is a big thing on St. Croix, but I don't know about St. Thomas. Which island will, of course, be determined by that. You can't live on one and go to school on the other. 35 miles of open water!

we are planning on I think looking for housing on St Thomas, but are open to either St Croix or St Thomas. I know that the University has campuses on both Islands. We will not be starting nursing school till fall 2010, but will be doing pre nursing classes online and so on. I am just not sure where to start on looking for a place. I have heard from several people that it is easier to just look once we get there cause there is not much to choose from online. Our plane will land in St Thomas, so that is the number one place that we are going to be looking. We are not looking for something extravagant, we would be happy with a one bedroom, or even a nice studio.

I am confused :S Are you moving here a year ahead of starting school? Or are you scouting out the islands to decide on a nursing school? There are lots of housing options available now on St Thomas- just drive around and see the areas that interest you. You might want to check with Ronnie on this board about short term housing while you are figuring it all out.

Have you checked with UVI to see if your plan will qualify you as residents?

Good morning Freckley 13,

"Best" depends on a number of factors, such as what you like to do with your spare time, what you will be doing for work, and so on. Without more information than "on a tight budget", I would say St. Croix will be your best choice. St Thomas and St Croix are quite different from each other; keep doing your research. Good luck to you!

I can suggest a short term rental on St. Thomas. Go to www.stthomasvirginisland.com. The studio rental is a good short term rate and the place has phone, pool, free wifi, cable tv and kitchen.

Okie, dokie! That will give you time to visit both islands and look at the nursing programs, talk to students and graduates, etc. Muy goodo idea IMHO! 🙂
