Hello all! quick background, i am 26 years old living in Charleston, SC (which I love), working as a paralegal. Our firm does a lot of business in St. Croix, so I have become somewhat familiar with the island. Recently, I have decided to research possibly moving to St. Croix or St. Thomas. I figure why not do it now while I am young and am able to go anywhere. I have not found much online as far as job openings and condos/apartments to rent. Basically I am just looking for a little advice on where to live, where to work, especially law firms on either island. Any help would be great! Thanks!

Just wanted to let you know there are plenty of law firms and I have seen ads looking for paralegals. I will let you know if/when I see one again. Most of the ads for rent and jobs are in the newspaper (Avis) I live on St. Croix and love it. Dont't get me wrong, there is an adjustment, but you are young and adaptable!! Good luck!

There are LOTS of law firms on STX, and most of them need competent help. Some firms have better reputations than others and a few fill specialty niches.

Most of the law offices are in downtown Christiansted. There are condos available for lease in and around town, some through rental agents and some directly from property owners.

Speaking of speciality niches, and I know this is a long shot, but is anyone out there aware of any STX law firms who dabble in intellectual property? I have been a legal assistant for the last ten years in this field and am moving to St. Croix permanently in December. I have researched to the best of my ability but haven't been able to drum up much in this regard. Either way, I'm hoping to transcend some of my skills and (hopefully) land a legal assistant job in a different area of law if IP is not practicable.

Thanks in advance for any info any one may be able to provide.

kmcconathy, I would love to hear more about the type of law your firm practices. Look me up when you get on island and maybe we can compare notes! 🙂

My current firm is Tax Law...some may find it boring, but I like it. A lot more laid back in terms of deadlines and whatnot, and an added bonus is you dont deal with the Courts! We also do estate planning, probate, asset protection, setting up LLC's and Inc's. We do some work with a couple of firms down on St. Croix, our attorneys go down there all the time. I would think there would be plenty of tax attorneys down there?
