Moving/Shipping and Storage.

I will be moving to St. Thomas in January to begin a new job. Because this is a long-term position, I would eventually like to find a good place to stay. However, people tell me that January is the time when many seasonal workers come to the Islands and good apartments become difficult to find. So, I am probably going to see about getting a temporary (3-month or so) furnished place that would allow me to look around for something more permanent.

But. this leaves a problem with my belongings here in the US. I have no idea what to do about arranging the move (which is being paid for by my company). Are there good self-storage facilities on the island that would be useful to hold my things? Would it be a good idea to sell my extraneous furniture and buy new stuff once on the island?

Thanks!

Justin

Since the company is paying for your move, ship it al! Haha! Normally I'd suggest to sell everything that you don't "need" and buy it all on island, but if someone else is picking up the bill, have them ship it to FORTRESS SELF STORAGE INC 52F-1 Estate Thomas ............(behind the hospital)........(340) 776-3678 and get a fully furnished apartment with a short term lease (6 mo. is usually the shortest, but I'm sure that some of the rental agencies will know of some shorter). Even if you get stuck with a 6 mo. lease, you can always move the landlord's items into your storage unit and make the apartment feel like "home". Then, when you are ready, find a nice, unfurnished place, or buy one, and move in! Just the fact that your company is paying for the move means that it is going to be permanent...make them ship your car, too!!
