Considering coming to St Croix for up to a year starting late 2013 but just need basic shelter, a long rental, loft or resort works. Just need dependable Internet and cell phone service. Need time to reflect, get organized and decide future, which could include retiring there.

If that's only for rent (and WAPA), and internet and phone, then it's do-able. But if that's your budget for all expenses (food, transportation, fun, etc.), then the VI is probably not the place for you. It's expensive here.
