I am moving to St. Thomas in September and will working as a RN at the hospital there. I'm used to the island life, was born on an island, visit frequently, and can't wait to get back to a slower pace. My only true concern is education for my children. I don't think that private school will be an option ( I have three children and am a single parent). So, I could work like a crazy person , send them to private school, and never have time to actually raise them or they can attend public school. So, my question is, what are the "better" elementary and middle schools on St. Thomas? I'm willing to find housing based just on the schools in the area. I'd just like for them to have a good foundation, I don't have a problem supplementing at home. If anyone has any info, I'd appreciate it. I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

That is a tough one. I have heard that the best public elementary is Joseph Sibily (sp?) School which is in Mafolie. Everyone tells me the middle schools are bad. The private schools have financial aid. Also the private religious schools are not terribly expensive and have financial aid. All Saints is about $3500/year. Vi Montessori is aobut $6500/year and both have aid.

Hello, I am also interested in the public school situation. My family will be moving to St. Croix with a young child who will start school next year. We will not be able to afford private school. Does anyone have a suggestion of who I can seek information about public school? Need info on registration deadlines, zoning information, etc. Thanks!

Anyone who is moving to the USVI with children and considering the public schools needs to come down and look them over in person first, IMHO.
