Could someone please tell me what the neighborhoods of St. John are like? I know that Coral Bay is a community, but what about the North, South East and West sides of the island? Is there a difference in the temperature like there is on the Northside of St. Thomas? Where do most people live? Where are the best places to dive around St. John?

Shawn,

St. John has two laces that are referred to as town centers. Coral Bay is the smaller of the two, and the oldest. You can still see the old Customs House just above the docks by Skinny Legs. Cruz Bay is the current town center for St. John, where all of the taxis orginate from and all of the ferry traffic is. You have living concentrations in both areas, but you need to see what type of environment you want to be on.

Coral Bay is the East End of St. John. The North side is somewhat cooler, but the accommodations there are much pricier than the rest of the island. Also, you need to keep in mind that St. John is 2/3's National Park, so accommodations are not available all over the island.

As far as diving, Eagle Shoals (off Coral Bay harbor), The Leaf, and Flanagan's Reef have some of the best diving. Not all operators go to these sites, so you will have to see who does.

Enjoy!
