New move advice

On October 6 I'll be leaving the Mainland and landing in St. Thomas.
I've secured a little financial help from family, but the best I've been able to figure out (other than renting sight-unseen) is to spend a few days in a hotel or hostel. Have any other single (male/female) arrivals found this useful? Or is sight-unseen apartment hunting the best way to go?
I'm 32, male, gay and single. Not worried about much except finding a place to sleep for the first few days I'm there.

Everyone has said not to rent unseen. I'm planning a move as well, however, I'll be looking at and possibly putting down a deposit on my place during my PMV. I would say stay in a hotel while you're their or rent a short term place until you find somewhere permanent. Also, you'll probably wanna open up a local bank account so the funds don't take forever to clear when you do find a spot.

I was wondering if some landlords accept PayPal as payments for rent/security?

I too echo not to rent without going there in person. Have a way to get funds without a local bank or checks for a while. When you do open an account, you will need a DL, passport, utility bill, fingerprint, list of favorite foods, and your genome sequence. (I exaggerate only slightly). When you do open the account, order checks from deluxe (or any internet provider). Do not have your bank order them unless you want to wait months and be charged up to $250 (I speak from peronal experience).

Good luck! I love St. Thomas, snide comments about banking aside 😉

Just opened bank account. Definitely two forms of picture ID and 2 hours of your day. I actually fell asleep twice.. I would advise against renting sight unseen. Many properties I saw pictures of online were not ideal in person (two smelled like there was a dead body buried in it). I'm lucky enough to have lodging paid for four 30 days to do my search. There is plenty of options and reasonably priced if you are willing to do leg work

Thanks to all who responded. Now comes the fun part of findi affordable temporary housing. Lol.
Regardless, I'm so excited to start this new adventure.

Ps. The idea of opening an off-shoar bank account makes me giggle so much. Makes me feel like a billionaire oil tycoon avoiding "the man."
