For the past few months, there has been a poster at the sunny isle theater saying that a new theater would be completed this year, with stadium seating, 8 screens, a modern concession station, etc. Has anyone heard anything about this?

Not sure but Caribbean Theaters took over Sunny Isle Theaters a few months ago. Someone is doing a huge renovation next to the Kmart/Sears building also. Maybe this is what they are talking about?

The theater we have now is mostly empty when ever I go there. How can we support TWO movie complexes?

Agree, we go every couple of months if there is movie that interests us but when we do, nearly no one is in the theater except us!
I guess we are not going to see the right movie!

Call me a dud, but I'd rather wait a few months and stream a movie for $5 than pay $50 for tickets, popcorn and soda for two.

Yeah, we never went to the STX theater for this reason - that, and the way people sit and talk and text during the movie.

In the states it's a different story - if indeed a new theater is built that is more like stateside it would probably be a much improved experience.

Like our economy could support a movie duplex.

Apparently, at least in Florida, some people are now shooting those who are texting the theater.

And on St Croix, people get shot in front of kids at a daycare??? The conclusion is violence can happen anywhere.

The shooter in the theater was a nut job and was a one off thing. The cool thing is that violence on the whole has been on the decline in the US for some time now. Living on an island gives you a twisted view of things in the states based on news and media, I had it myself.

And there's been many times on STX with all the texting and talking in the theater I could understand someone losing their mind over it. 😉

And just wait until they allow people to use cell phones on the airlines! Shootings would not be wise at 31,000ft but I can see it happening....and I might be one with the shooters!

In St Thomas we have a 7 screen theater and it seems to be crowded quite often - certainly on weekends -- and good VI Senior discounts too.

Yep, I think if St Croix had one it would get used a LOT. You hear all the time on STX how bad the theater is, and I think that's why people don't go.

Btw, this was the shooter in FL: "Reeves, a 71-year-old retired Tampa police officer, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. A 2005 Tampa Bay Times article also described him as a former director of security for Busch Gardens."

Not many current movies are available legally which is why people on STT go to the movies. It's cheaper to go to the movies here than in the States, and you've not forced to buy popcorn - only the ticket. I stream/buy the ones that Don't come here.

I've found the theater on STX to be very well kept and an enjoyable experience most times. However, it is often way too cold inside. It always amazes me too that people bring very young children into totally inappropriate movies and the ticket takers allow this. But, I suppose that's life these days.

Same on Stt with the movie theatre being well kept and not bad experiences and some parents bringing children to inappropriate movies.
I wear jeans, long sleeves, and sneakers with a jacket because of the A/C.
Some people even bring blankets.

I would say the theater has really improved in STX in the past year. On Tuesday's it's only $5 per ticket and you can get a large soda and popcorn for around $6.50. Not a bad price for a family outing on a rainy day. I do agree that it's stupid cold inside and our kids always complain. We end up taking blankets or heavy coats with us.

My family walks in there looking like they are ready for a sleepover party, most my kids have blankets and my wife always has one too, I personally don't mind it at all.
