I am new on the island, from Chicago, 38 year old male, graphic designer, firefighter. I have been here a week and am living with a great family I met thru a friend in the states. While I love it here already, I'm worried about finding someone with similar interests as me. I'm not in college and I can't drink and party all night every night. I don't want to sit around and 'smoke' all day either. Just looking for some casual folks to hang with-go to the beach, watch a movie/sports.

Are you out there?? Lets grab a bite or something...

Ask me questions.

NEJ

Try Chicken Charlies for Sunday Brunch. Sit at the bar and tell people that you are new on the island or try trivia night on Tuesdays and ask to join a team. Rainbow Beach on Sundays. If you like to scuba dive, take one of the diving trips. We have met many people just going to the beach and striking up conversation. Hope this helps.

nejmaniac, don't worry, I think you will be a very valuable "asset" on the island. There are many nice, stable men there, but they are all married. Finding one that is single and doesn't drink excessively, smoke, do drugs, or womanize, is a different story. Like dougtamjj says, get involved with something like scuba diving (or whatever sport you are interested in), and try not to get into the drink, drink, party, party lifestyle that so many there end up in. Okay, that is fine in moderation, but there is so much else to do with your life. Good luck!

Cane Bay at the beach on Sat and Sun is a good place to meet people. Bring some extra soda or beer. There are many times groups they fixing food, ask if you can join and share some of your drinks.

what part of the island are you living in with the friends of friends? There may be some additional ideas that pop up if we know where you are located.

You are just in time for 11/28 Jump-Up! Walk around and stop at booths around the city to see the different groups set up. I am going to be at the St. Croix Recycling group down near the boardwalk. We have a great group there. You can also go try the SCUBA club on St. Croix. Their meetings are social events www.crabbsvi.com

Stop at the booth and say hi!

Thank you everyone for the advice - its helping me - right now I'm staying in Hovensa housing (Cottage) but looking for work and apartment anywhere - so I won't be in Cottage long. Anyone have a 2BR available? :0)
