I have been thinking about US VI for awhile, and was wondering if anyone might work as a nurse on the island and what job opportunities there might be. Thank you!

On St. Thomas, there is the new cancer center that just opened. What kind of nursing? They use a lot of traveling nurses which cost a lot.

I've been in ICU, but would be willing to check into other units. Is it better to go through a company then, and just do travel nursing? I'm sure it does cost the hospital loads of money.

lulu: The website for Schneider Regional Medical is: http://www.srmedicalcenter.org/ It includes Schneider Hospital on St Thomas, Myra Keating Smith Health Center on St John and CKCI (the Cancer Center.) ICU nurses are always welcome at RLS (the only place with an ICU.) Whether you try for a traveling job or a "NOPA" position (it is a government-owned hospital, so you would be a government employee) is up to you. If you go as a traveler, you will be given a limited contract, something like 6 months, then will be asked to sign up on staff. You may not stay permanently as a traveller. The travelers get extra money for housing, etc. but they are also given the worst shifts and are not treated well by staff, who do not get money for housing, etc.

Someone from St Croix can give you the website for the Juan Luis Hospital. We want you over here on St Thomas! 😉
