Ok, I am completely obsessed with learning as much as I can. I think I have read just about every post on this website, I think I have seen every picture of the Islands the internet has to offer. I just can't get enough and I can't wait to move. It's so far away though. All of you folks that are moving in the next two weeks or have just left are sooooooooooooo lucky. I am very very envious.

Fruit trees.....can someone tell me about some of the different types of fruit trees on the islands. Also, is it a common practice to eat the fruit off of the trees in one's own backyard? I would love to wake up in the morning, take charlie for a walk and pick a few pieces of fruit for breakfast.......perfect...just perfect.

hope you guys don't get too much rain tonight!!!!!! stay dry!

Saur Orange
tropical cherry
coconuts
bread fruit

Yes people do have them in thier garden and do eat them. I am sure there are more.

Jenny- I know all about obsession! I think about it every single day and we still have 3- 5 years to go. It is so good though to have a clearly defined plan and goal in place, it makes it so much more real. Do you have a timeframe of your move? Hang in there, sweetie, we'll get there soon enough 🙂

Jenny,

In addition to Iris's list, we've seen passion fruit vines (they have the most amazing feathery white and purple flowers!), and have heard people talk of sour sop and sugar apples.

The man you want to get to know is Former Ohio Guy. He is a horticulturalist who recently moved here and already has an incredible knowledge of the plants native to this area. FOG has been extremely generous with helping a lot of folks here figure out what plants they've found, seed pods they picked up, or bugs that are attacking their garden.

Watch for him here and introduce yourself -- he is the guy to know in this area.

Chef Kendra,

Hi!!!!!! Yes, I am very very obsessed. Last night, my mother says to me "jenny, you're obsessed!" Ha! I told her......you ain't seen nothing yet...just wait until after I come back from my visit.
The time frame for my move is going to be in a little over a year. I was planning on moving by myself but it seems the more I talk about it, the more people around me want to come as well......this includes my mother and a close girlfriend.
I wish I could move tomorrow however I am a little too realistic for that so I want to stay here at my current job and save as much money as possible.
Well, everyone good luck with the storm!

Hello Jenny,

Fruit trees we have; Avacados, Bannanas, Cashews, Coconuts, Soursop, Sugarapple, Tangerines, Tamarind, Kenips, Figs, Pomgranettes, Mesple, Mobin or Pig Plum, Star Fruit, Pineapples, Passionfruit, Sea Grapes, Papaya, Guava, Mangos, limes, breadfruit...

It is common for home owners to have a few fruit trees in their yard, and yes they eat the fruits. Some need to be prepared, washed... others can be eaten right off the tree.

Here is some more info.
