there's a trail on the very east end of the island over to isaacs bay, one of my favorite beaches. last time i was there was 5 years ago, it was a slow trail but not difficult at all-- a stock early '90s blazer did it without any trouble. dont start where you park to walk down to isaacs bay [they put big rocks to stop you from going that way... heh, unless your jeep is willing to do some rock crawling? ;)].. start a little further back, close to the big satellite dish.

also, on the opposite end, there are *tons* of trails [really, little muddy dirt one-lane roads] in the northwest corner, starting from the road through the rainforest, and the unpaved 'scenic road' up there. ive never driven through all of them, but i have hiked back there a lot. the only trouble you can run into back there is you never know where roads end and where private driveways begin-- i often came upon private houses, most with friendly owners, a few with less friendly owners [and dogs]... a good goal is annally bay where there is a really cool large tidal/swimming pool. also lots of ruins, windmills, and [late summer] ripe mangoes on trees along the way

enjoy!

heh, i'm actually on st john, where half of our 'roads' could be considered jeep trails... [though it is alll getting paved, slowly but surely... oh well]

if nothing else on stx, youll be happy to have your lifted jeep for 'traffic' reasons-- people will give you much more space and respect in a large truck. i used to have a jeep here on stj with just a 3" lift and 33" tires, all the black powder coated tube bumpers and guards, a bunch of kc lites... and despite the fact that it was still just a 4-cyl little lightweight wrangler, even the big dump trucks and buses and things didnt mess with it at all-- no being forced off the road just because they were bigger, no being cut off, etc...
