OMG!! Home Depot

I was at Home Depot again yesterday, too. @Saucey, I almost wish I had applied for a job!!

Here's yesterday's story.:-)

I found a mirror on the wall, but it appeared to be sold out already. I asked for the one on the wall. The manager said more would be in about 1 or 2 weeks, and if I would wait, he would give it to us for half price. I said something like."..oh...(kind of sad faced)...we have a new tenant arriving Sunday, and I wanted to make her bedroom nice...oh well...the mirror in there will do for a couple of weeks..." The manager said, "I'll sell you this one...at HALF PRICE!"

Since he had to take the tag off and put it back on the wall, there was no price tag. He wrote some "code" on a piece of paper and told us to give that to the cashier. She took it and rang up the mirror (at full price). I told her the manager said it would be half price, and she simply said, oh, OK, and then changed the price. I noticed when she discounted it, it rang up as "customer satisfaction". Sweet!!

I realize this is an example of grand opening procedures, but you have to give them kudos for really working it!!

I'm sure I'll have to go back today for something....*-)

Enjoy now while the prices are low. HD did the same thing on STT, and slowly began raising prices which are no longer stateside pricing. HD on STT doesn't always have the low price goods.

Awwww, Tippi, don't rain on our parade! I was talking to a lady in FL this morning, telling her how excited some of us are to have the new Home Depot. She just kind of paused, and said, "If you're getting that excited about a Home Depot, it might be time to move off island."

I'm sure the prices will go up, the stock will go down and the service will eventually suck, but in the meantime.....YAY!!!

We got a floor model toaster oven - they told us to just go to customer service when we were ready to go and it would be there waiting.
I had to challenge the service counter to see if they were selling it at the same cost that the floor-assistant had said, and in fact - they were in sync. It's amazing what a good feeling that can cause!

I haven't seen that many eyes and teeth (smiling )since Al Jolson....Have you noticed the tone of this thread ...it's like we have battered wife syndrome. The options we had before HD were at best frustrating most times but we accepted the abuse. What's that country song..". I got a brand new girlfriend" I love this place....I start to grunt like Tim the tool man as soon as I get out of the car.! 😮

Congrtads STX. HD opened in STT and there was a big todo. Prices, however continue to go up and up. Therer are still bargans however. East end is now biding on the same material jobs as HD. Go in with your list and see what they can do. Then go to HD and then back and forth. The overall quality of their wood is not very good. MSI here has better quality stuff but you pay for it.

I would think that yopu will see HD prices creap up on STX. But it is truly a boon for you all.

I have to add to this thread and say how wonderful I think HD is. As I posted in another thread, we like to just walk the aisles and see the amazing selection. The prices are really great. Hope they stay that way. And, I have not encountered one customer service issue after four visits. Everyone is very friendly. In fact, the other customers I run into seem as giddy as I am that we have this great place!

Absolutely....strangers are starting conversations in the aisle! And nobody is getting upset that the aisles are blocked because of those conversations. People are just joining in! It's GREAT!!

I thought I got one in a Thursday Avis. It was a few weeks ago since I bought a paper, but I know I got one.

Anyone else?

Yes, go to their website (www.homedepot.com) and when viewing an item, there should be a link to check local availability; you'll have to enter your zip code. I did this just a couple weeks ago and found it very helpful. I couldn't believe the price quoted online was the same that I found locally!

Yea I tried that but so far every single dryer i picked says not available which is why I was hoping for a listing of some sort.
Guess it's time to try each and every one!

Same happened after HD STT opened. They couldn't replenish the stock fast enough so that many items (expecially large appliances, ceiling fans.....or maybe I noticed those because that's what we were shopping) were out of stock. Typical responses "it's on the ship and will be here when it gets unloaded....couple of days at most". My recommendation is not to pay for it unless you SEE it physically. Maybe it's on the ship.....maybe it isn't and will take forever to get and when you call every week and finally get confirmation that "it" has arrived, it may not be what you ordered/paid for. Don't get me wrong. I'm not complaining. HD STT is great to have! But, there are certain nuances....annoyances....that you should try to avoid.

For months after the STT store opened, items not available on the shelves but that were supposedly "in stock", were actually sitting in trailers in the parking lot. This was the case with some items over the course of several weeks.:X

FL Barrier Island

Have to say, my experiences with out of stock ---in trailer, just not in store yet with Home Depot on St Croix has been the opposite---on 3 occasions since the store open.

Two stoves I bought, out of stock in store but awaiting clearance to add to inventory, I was told I could pay, and have a will call for the item as the item would be available within two weeks. Both times, I received a call within a week and was able to pick up the items. Moreover, each item had my name on it on a large 11 x 14 paper---with my number to call.

Another item not in stock and I paid for , I received a call within 3 days, item available for pickup.

It will take several months for the Home Depot on St Croix to establish logistic support channel to support the demands on St Croix. Lots of empty spaces on the shelves, laundry detergent, trash barrels, lamps, fans and major appliances----all due to large volume of sales.

The good news, some of the competition is steping up, just went with a friend to purchase a fridge. She could have bought an 18.2 cubic feet energy efficient one at Home Depot for $569, however , bought a 21 cubic feet one at Carlos Furniture for $560 after the 20 % sale off price and the 30% rebate she will receive from the energy office.

InnAtP - glad to hear it! Encouraging story. Our refrigerator is runnin' all the time and sounding like it's on last leg. Maybe we will test STT HD on items not currently in stock again.

Just bought mini blinds for the condo. Had my wife check prices in AZ against here. It was about $1.60 more each here but when you figure the tax in AZ it was far cheaper here and didn't have to ship!
Nice place, nice people work there.
