My husband is going to be the new kid on the block in the Kmart pharmacy beginning the first or second week of July - we will be on STX on Monday and stay through Friday.

Thanks to ALL of you who have helped us begin our transition period - I'll post more on that after we arrive back home - but we will plan to be at Off the Wallon Tues. or Wed. night - if anyone is in the neighborhood, please introduce yourselves! My husband is about 6'3", glasses, mid 50's, and looks like a pharmacist. I will be the one beside him who looks like she's had too many Rum Runners, I suppose....

Can't wait to tell ya'll the tale of our very soon upcoming move to STX....again, thank you for your patience with us as we've made the single biggest decision of our lives...we are humbly grateful for our opportunity and hope to be an asset to the communities on STX.

By the way, my nickname is Sam - I am quite confused about who I am - so if you see the pharmacist guy (Russell), please don't call me Becky, as I may not answer.....

Sam and Russell,

Just a quick hello from me and Tabra to congratulate you both on your upcoming move! Hope all goes well on your visit and with the move; it IS a big decision!

We won't be able to meet you in June, but our PMV is in August - the 20th to 27th - and we'd be happy to toast your new home with you!

Do keep in touch - you already have my e-mail, and we'll look forward to your posts here as well.

Best,
Beth

Becky (Sam?),

Welcome to St. Croix!! If you can get into C'sted on Wednesday (6-15-05), my friend Peter DesJardins will be playing at The Mix on the boardwalk. There should be several of us there. We usually sit outside - weather permiting. Would love to meet you. We are usually there from about 7:30 to 9:30. There is free secure parking behind the Caravelle Hotel for both Rum Runners and The Mix.

Linda

John -

We would LOVE to get together with you when you get here - give us a shout.

My husband is a staff pharmacist in retail, so I'm not sure about salaries for directors or hospital pharmacist. We came from west central Arkansas, and the salaries are comparable. Unfortunately, the cost of living is higher....sort of. Some things are reasonable, some aren't...you ARE aware you will have to pass NAPLEX again? Pain in the butt - my husband is 53 and hasn't tested in years! You have to be on-island for 6 mo. to take the test, though...I guess how much of a salary dive you take or don't take depends on what area of the country you are from and what you are looking for. Also, my husband was a pharmacy manager in Arkansas and just didn't want the headaches anymore...we decided we could do with less money and more time...

PM me privately ssrr@runbox.com I may some ideas for you. At least we can tell you what we've found from our end.

Cheers!

Sam

If you see your friend Peter, ask him if he has a sister in Arkansas? Jeez, I met someone there with a brother who was a musician or a chef (senior moment, can't remember!) who lived on STX...I think maybe the person worked in a doctor's office??? Just wondering - now I'm wondering who I met....

john brandon,
njgoombah here. Firstly, you will find a wealth of information on this site. Research and read the posts fully. That said, I am a pharmaceutical company representative based in New Jersey. I am still considering a 2 year break from the Northeast to practice pharmacy in the USVI. Take a close look at the salary data posted in the home page of this site. Granted this data is from the 2002 Department of Labor, but in my opinion the salaries for pharmacy are not comparable, but substantially less than anywhere in the mainland. Also, factor in the higher cost of living and it makes a decision that looks easy on the surface much more difficult. I have not decided on a PMV, as I am also weighing a transfer within my company to a Southern state.

Thanks again to all the regular readers and posters to this forum for all the fantastic information.
