hello everyone, my friend and i are planning a move to st. john september 2006. i was wondering when we should begin our search for a place to live (apartment, studio or house) and when we should begin our job search. Also, how difficult is it to find these things on st. john. any and all advice would be awesome. thanks so much!!

Hello Lauren,

Apartment search - a couple months before you plan to move you can start looking. Often its necessary to actually come down, stay in an inn/b&b and find something in person. But you can start a couple months before; perhaps find a room-mate situation or something that is opening up around the time you are getting on island.

Job Search - what ype of work are you seeking?

Hello islander
thanks for the reply, I will have a psychology and management degree and my friend will have an early childhood education degree. we would both be interested in something that involves children.

Hello Lauren,

You could start now and just get school names lined up, application processes for schools etc. sorted out and depending on the application process determine if you should start the process now or wait a few months; however I don't believe the schools would know their job openings for next years term now. I would say the schools are your best bet. The Department of Education's web site is http://www.teachislands.vi/ and the only private school on St. John is the St. John School on Giftt Hill http://www.coralbayschool.org/index.html and http://www.pinepeaceschool.k12.vi/

Hope that helps.
