I had a alert one security install in my vacation rentals in the past and the experience was unbearable.
1.The alarm went off the company contact me and said there was a break in and they would call the police. Alert ! call me again and said the police could not fine the building.
2. Upon arrival to the building I ask Alert 1 to hold on to the telephone while I search the building and to call for help if something went wrong, THEY REFUSE TO HOLD.
3.The alarm goes off if the middle of the night for no reason even if they are not set, waking up ever one; I ask to have this problem correct as soon as possible, they give me instruction that do not work and the system goes off again over and over ever 20 minutes. Keeping everyone awake and angry.
4. When talking to the service you learn they are off island with no control. As for the local administrator ( who is part deaf) can not get your request right and they are never responsible for any errors.

IF YOU HAVE ALERT ONE DO AS I HAVE DONE GET RID OF THEM AND START OVER!! BEWARE

Any alarm company here is pretty much a joke. Live here long enough and you'll quickly learn why.

Anytime you make an investment in something, make sure that a person lives here that will be willing to service it in a timely manner.

As for alarms.....forget the ones that charge a service contract. The best alarm system in my opinion is a very reliable sensor and multiple VERY LOUD horns. Flashing lights and cameras are a bonus but LOTS of noise should chase them away and alert the neighbors. The trick is no false alarms !!!

One thing to add to luckgirls

Lights cameras and dogs AND neighbors that care enough to go check on your place when said things are going off....We all hear car alarms nowadays but rarely care to even turn our heads to see whats up.

We bought a new house stateside a few years ago that had an amazing security system. This system had everything from climate control to sirens and strobe lights on our roof. I bet that thing went off at least once a week for the first few months and I'm sure that our new neighbors were not too fond of us. Even thought the system would go off, they would call and I would give them our security word so all was fine. That was until I burnt some garlic toast and the smoke detector went off, even if they call and you explain the situation the fire department will still show up at your house firetrucks and all!

Too bad that where security is much needed on the islands it has turned into a joke. Even though we did buy property in a gated community with full time security unfortunately things still happen. Do they have any neighborhood watch committees in the islands?
