Hello All,
I am finally moving to St. Croix this spring, and want to plant a few big coconut palm trees around my house for that lush tropical look. Does anyone know of a tree farm or grower that has coconut palms (10' to 16' tall) for sale? I have seen a few groves mid island and on the West End, but I don't know who to talk with.
Thank you!!!
MGW

call 513 7822 or 773 2953 to respond to an add in the Avis @ mature palms. I'd like to find a few Samoan coconut palms, they never get so tall so you can't reach the fruit.

green coconuts are my absolute faves...get a machete, chop off the end, drink the watah and then scoop out the jelly with your fingers and eat it....yummy and so so good for your heart.

BIG coconut palms are not always desirable....we have green and yellow dwarf varieties here in STX...both have the tropical lush feel only the dwarfs will not kill you when the nuts drop...as Bombi says you can reach 'em when you want them. I know many folks who consider the BIG coconuts a BIG nuisiance...go for the dwarfs and you'll be eating jelly in 3 years....just let me and Empress Irijah know when we can stop by!

Thank you all for the contact information. Now I just wish we could cover most of St. Croix's beaches in Coconut Palm...what a beautiful sight that would be!!!

Coconut trees........we bought a small house on a large lot on a bridgeless barrier island off the west coast of Florida almost 20 years ago. With a vision for the future and knowing how beautiful it would be to watch the sunset and the Gulf of MX/beach through the coconut trees, we planted 53 coconut trees on our property. As the trees grow and produce nuts (and grow and produce nuts and grow and produce nuts....), you have to spend a LOT of time maintaining them else you run the risk of damage to personal property and injury or death by falling fronds and/or nuts......gravity works. AND, you need to think about how you're going to dispose of all those palm fronds and nuts. The trees on the property are indeed offering the beautiful view that we had dreamed of so many years ago. But, there are other trees and plants that can also create a nice looking landscape. Just something to think about. That's all I'm sayin'.......

Coconut palms are beautiful and the nuts are a bonus!

PLEASE remember, though, that they are a non-native and invasive, so please plant them with care. There are other more appropriate palm species to consider for your landscapes.

Planting coconut palms on federal lands, like Buck Island or Sandy Point, is a crime.
