Paperwork for my dog

I booked a one-way flight for myself, my boyfriend, and our dog today! We'll be arriving on July 3rd.

I know I've read things about what information, paperwork, health certificates, vaccines, tags, etc. you need when taking a dog to the USVI, but I mentally filed it away under "check this again later," and now, despite using the search function, I'm having trouble finding that information again. I should start writing things like this down. If someone could direct me to a relatively up to date thread on this forum or just tell me what agency to call, or tell me about your own experience, I would be very grateful. Thank you!

When you do your search, change the search date to last year.

Got your email. Will stay in touch.:-)

You need a domestic health certificate for interstate travel (some vets will try to make you get an international one: insist on domestic). It needs to be dated within 10 days of travel. It will include basic information about your dog, as well as the details of its rabies vaccine (make, date, serial number), information which your vet will have.

That should be it, at least for carry-on. I would also carry records of all vaccinations and such. Are you checking in your dog or carrying him/her on board? If the former, watch out for the temperature restrictions, especially in July.

Sorry, I should have specified that the dog will go as a carry on... all 6 pounds of her. 🙂

Then it's super easy! Just the health certificate, carrier and reservation and you're set. 🙂

My standard advice to people traveling with a carry on pet is to be very early to the airport for check in. Even with a reservation (pet resv. are not paid in advance), be the first to check in, so you don't get bumped. They only take a few in the cabin, and the airline reservation system is not fool-proof. First come...first served.

Thanks for your help! Sounds like it's no different from driving across the border to Mexico, which we do every couple of months... only we'll be in the air this time. Getting to the airport early sounds like excellent advice. 🙂
