Per-Move Visit

Hello all,

I just purchased my ticket for the per-move visit. I will stay for one week in May.
I was orgininally planning my per-move visit for September 2004 but the only thing I can think about is the USVI. Every day I'm on the message board and other sites checking out everything I can find out about the USVI, but I really will not have the total picture until I see for myself. I will be staying in St Thomas with a friend but she has to work during my stay.
I would greatly appreciate any advise on what I should do or look for while I'm there.
I plan on visiting different areas checking out apartments, looking for job opportunities, hair salons, super markets and etc. Of course at least one day on the beach, I need a beautiful tan for the summer to make everyone jealous of where I will hopefully be moving soon.
Thanks,
MLogan

Hello MLogan,

I think you have it covered; look at apartments, banks (find out what it takes to open one, see who you like best in terms of what they offer and customer service), look for jobs and employers - get in there so they they see you are on island, hair salons, groceries, clothing stores, mall, drive around the island and get an island of transportation requirements, take the bus so you get a feel for it and the $1 safari, go walk in town, go to the gym if interested, maybe church, laundry, beach, restaurant and bar, if there are local events going on check them out, follow your friend around when she does her errands so you see what she goes through.

Good Luck!!

See my response to "the move is coming"

Rent : Usually high, but I don't know what you are accustomed to or your standard of living. My co-worker pay $1,100.00/month for a good one bedroom with a St. John view.
Grocery prices are higher than in the states, but you will soon adjust to that.
I'm a guy, so Hair dressers are not my field.

My best advise, The locals are sometimes snarly at first. (I'm one of them). Don't be shaken by this. Be persistant but very courtious in what you need. Good morning, good afternoon, how are your, thank you, will get your problem solved faster than anything else.

Enjoy your time here. I'm listed under ManagedFreight.com if you need help moving to Paradise

Hello PL,

I don't know of any employment agencies/head hunters. There are a few temp. agencies that seem to focus on clerical temps. There are two companies Working World and Alltemp that seem to do a bit of both job placement and temping. Working World on St. Thomas is listed as (340)776-3320 and Alltemp on St. Croix (340)713-0688.
