With the way metal is disappearing in the VI these days, the copper hanging from those utility poles will soon be the next to be stolen.

I really don't like having a cell phone but it is a necessary evil, these days and does have some useful merits.
Hate it when someone calls on the land line with a cell and all you hear of the message is static and they fade in and out.
Can't call them back as you cannot understand who it is, what they want and what was that phone number?
Only can understand 5 digits out of 10 they have left. Then they wonder why you haven't called them back!
I use a cell mainly for long distance or when on the road but guess I am old fashioned as I really do prefer my land line and I always get my messages tho some aren't understandable if the other person is using a cell to call in on.

I have both with a local area code and that does help when one or the other is out of service.
I don't bundle the services for phone, internet, cell or cable with Innovative tho it would be less costly because if their service goes down, for whatever reason, then you can wait a couple of weeks before they send someone to fix the problem unless it is just a power outage causing the service interuption.

Their cable boxes were always having problems and that meant a visit to the office to trade it in for another old box and a long wait in the process. I switched to DISH and no longer have that problem plus their cost is actually less than what I was paying for cable with more channels and options, especially being able to record programs to whatch when you want.
Granted Innovative's service personnel are always as helpful as they can be but I really can't wait weeks to be without a phone and internet sevice at the same time.

Cell phones have their own issues with dropped and missed calls, not ringing and going directly to voicemail, delays in getting voice mail, being out of range in certain areas or on occassion not knowing you've picked up BVI cell tower until you get an astronomical bill from them that you then have to call and have to fight about to get taken off. Then you have all those people walking around looking like they are talking to themselves, everywhere you go and the idiots that still use the cells when driving that don't noice what else they are doing and should not be mulitasking as they are a danger to others.

PS/ I can think of one thing that is definately antiquated - WAPA!

Actually if you want the best of both worlds as far as having a local area code as well as an area code from the USA or elsewhere buy a dual SIM cell phone.

I have a dual SIM phone, one SIM for a 340 number the other SIM is an international world phone SIM that works in 200 countries with a local number for Chicago, Stockholm and Estonia..

I also have MagicJack and Skype numbers for Miami and New York. If needed they can all be forwarded to my cell phone.

I agree. MagicJack isn't perfect, but with a 4 Mbs connection from BBVI it works at least as well as AT&T.

I was using my cell to talk to a friend in Chicago and it dropped the call four times.
