Planing our move to STX

We are finally planing our move. My husband and I agreed that we will come to STX together. Find a place to rent. Then I will go on the search to find a job and daycare for the children. He will also look for a job but return to the mainland to finish up business wile I get everything ready for our new life on STX.

I am not sure yet what I will end up doing. I was a pro chef over 10 years ago, worked in my own business as a commercial photographer and also do foodstyling for other photographers around here. I tinker around with websites and shoot images for stock. I am wondering however having worked on my own so long what kind of full time job I would even consider. I am not sure if I would enjoy being in the kitchen full time again. My husband works in the computer field and believes he would not find a job in his field and would need to run his own business. We always had one of us work full time for insurance reasons.

I would love to hear every ones feedback.

Thanks
Iris

Maybe try catering. That doesn't have to be full time, but there are lots of people here who pay big $$ to cater parties and don't always wind up with high quality food. Or maybe look for a 2-3 night a week chef job. There are some good restaurants on this island, but there are also some that could use some consistency.

Just as an FYI: As you already know, weddings pay a good deal for photographers. As many people do come to STT and STX to get married, you may made a decent salary working on an ad hoc basis by colaborating with others regarding the weddings. Antother photographer may be beginning. She is a professiona sports photographer, lives part time in STX and part time in Boston. This past year, she covered the Yankees, but also did interim wedding work as it pays so well.

As she is my tenant, if you are interested in partnering with her, it may work for both of you as she will not be able to do it when off island *(she is also a flight attendant). Just drop me a note if you wish at Affiliationllc@aol.com, and I will contact her or give you the contact information.

Warmly,

Dan

Thanks so much Dan and Alexandra. I might have to research some ethnic cooking if I where to go back to cooking. But it is a possibility. People do seem to like my food. I am also a great baker. I would not mind doing weddings as well. I have done some here. I don't like to make the wedding books. But perhaps your source has some tips on that as well. I will e-mail you. If I found a way to get set up on STX that way sooner I would love it. My husband can hold the force down here wile I shoot a wedding on STX. I just hope that AOL will be in a good mood. AOL is the only provider which seem to bounce my e-mail. If you don't get an e-mail from me please let me know.
