Hello all! My name is Maestro Paul 3ric (that's eric spelled with a 3) and I would like to introduce myself!

I have this crazy plan to move down to StX October 5th... Why is this crazy? I have absolutely NO contacts, as of yet, very little money, no accomidations or have ANY idea what it will be like trying to find a hostile (or just a nice beach to sleep on.)

As of right now, I'm flying out of Dallas on a three week round-trip. I'm from Colorado Springs, Colorado, but am flying out of Dallas for cheaper flights... Anyways

What I'm trying to get at here is: I need ALL the help I can get. First off, my main goal is to find a nightclub I can dj at. I spin dance music until the sun comes up!! (www.myspace.com/djpauleric) So I need to find some sort of work in that kind of environment. Second, I need to know of anywhere I'll be able to sleep (yearth, hostile, homeless shelter, beach...) I certainly don't have enough money to spend on a hotel...I'm lucky enough I saved the money for the plane ticket!

Anything else ANYBODY can think of, PLEASE, let me know.

Oh yeah, and I need some friends, that's all.

Musically Yours,
Maestro Paul 3ric

Best advice I can give you; look before you leap. I promise you that St Croix isn ot much like Colorado Springs, especially as concerns the ability to make a living being a club DJ. I am not aware of a youth hostel, homeless shelters are largey unavailable for the myriad homeless that currently roam the streets of St. Croix, and you ae not allowed to sleep on the beach, nor would I recommend it if it were legal. You would be best served if you came here with some $$ to tide you over for a while, say about 4-5 grand or so.

Other than that, go for it!

I hope you know that St. Croix is a Caribbean island, and as such, techno/progressive/whatever is not really popular here. You might have to make some adjustments, as most people like hip hop, dancehall, reggae and calypso. You had hip hop listed on your myspace page so maybe you could rely on that, but you would definitely need some Caribbean music as well in your repertoire. I am not trying to discourage you, but I am just letting you know what's up. There are no hostels, and actually St. Croix can be quite hostile for those who move here with no money (pun intended!). As bnk said, homeless shelters are limited and it's very unsafe to sleep on the beach. The infrastructure and social services are not up to the quality of the United States and are kind of third world-ish. Living expenses are quite expensive, and if you don't have anything lined up, you can be screwed.

However, I do not know you, and maybe you are extremely persistent and can somehow make it. I wish you the best of luck, and St. Croix can be an amazing adventure for many who move here, and I hope you find your niche on the island.

As much as your enthusiasm is to be commended, I really think you should do more research as coming here with nothing but air fare is a recipe for disaster. If you haven't done so already you should go to the first announcement at the top of this page posted by forum moderator "Islander" and read the wealth of information posted there. Good luck in whatever you decide to do but please do yourself a big favour and thoroughly research before making your move. Cheers.

Great just what we need on St. Croix! Please stay where you are and save yourself a lot of trouble and the island more headaches.
