Hey everyone i really want to move down there after i graduate high school. I was originally planning on moving there for only about 6 months but now i'm thinking about making it alot longer. I was just wondering what types of jobs i could possibly get into and also a place to live. I can't really find prices of appartments or homes very much. I plan to move by myself. Also where can i go to look at job places. I either want to live on st. croix or st. thomas.

Thanks

Murphy

Hello Murphy,
I just moved down to St Thomas a month ago. I originally was leaning toward St John, but the rental prices were way too steep. Anyway, I love St Thomas because I can take a day-trip to St John whenever I want to. From what I heard, it is a lot easier to find a job/apartment once you are here. I've been told that employers won't give you as much consideration until you are already living on the island. That's why I came down beforehand & scouted for a place to live. Maybe you can book a cheap hotel for a week while you scour for a place to live. You can get leads for apartments on this very website, which is where I found mine. Also, you can try the VI Daily News. Once I had the apartment, I started my job search. Again, I checked the help wanted section of the newspaper, went over to "Connections" in St John --- which has a bulletin board of postings, and did some old-fashioned "pounding the pavement". I actually found a job after five days of searching, and it was a perfect fit for me. But I knew coming down here that I was going to have to keep an open mind & possibly accept a job that wasn't my "dream job" . Sometimes you have to pay a price to live in such a beautiful place.
