PO Boxes

Is it possible to get a P.O. Box (either through the post office or a private place like Mail Boxes, Etc.) without having an on-island residence? We’re going down for our last visit to St Croix in March before making the move this summer and I would love to get a PO Box in March so that I have an address to forward everything to when we move.

Any recommendations on where to get a PO Box? Any idea about costs?

Bry

I recommend Gallows Bay Post Office. The cost is something like $45 for six months.

Federal Regulations require you to put down a physical address. Why not "borrow" one?

When we came down for our pmv, we got a box at (what is now) "Surf the Net" in the Pan Am pavilion in Christiansted. It's basically an internet cafe with mail boxes. We've continued to use their service for the two years we've been here because they'll hold our mail while we're off island -- even for two months -- while the post office would originally hold mail only for 30 days -- and they've now dropped that to 15 days. We receive all our mail (usps / ups / fedex) at Surf the Net and have had no problems. Talk to Sandy when you come down, or give her a call at 340-719-6245.

You won't be able to get a box thru the usps without being able to prove your residence here (mortgage, notorized lease or lease from a realtor). But you can use Mailbox etc and the above mentioned surf the net. The only problem with surf the net (if you dont work downtown) would be parking. Its hard to find parking downtown at all times.

Oh yeah, that's right. I do remember having to go my lease notarized. That was annoying!
