Thanks to the advice given here with my last posting I have been in contact with the nurse recruiter on STX and have an actual interview next month when I'm down on vacation. The next step - can anyone tell me the availability of rental property/apts. near the hospital on STX? I 'm hoping to keep the monthly fee under $1250 if possible and I'll be bringing my declawed cat and small dog. Also will need space (outside parking is OK) for the car. You've been so helpful with the job topic I'm hoping someone will have some housing info. for me.

The move won't take place until the summer providing the interview goes well and I'm hired. Again thanks to you who have been so helpful the last time I posted.

You shouldnt have any trouble finding a place that will have a parking space for your car but in stx garages and carports are few and far between. Just a heads up. And it'll help landlords on this board if you give them the month you will be coming. There are peppertree trailers are across from hospital and queens ridge condos are also close by (no idea if they have openings). Those are the only two I can think of that are in walking distance. But there are lots of choices in the 10 to 15 minute general area. The harder part will be finding a place that will accept the animals. I would suggest ocean terrance condos (they used to accept pets) but arent all those being sold now? Anyone?

When you meet with the nurse recruiter, I am inclined to think she can steer you to local apartments that meet you criteria. You may have do some digging regarding a place that accepts pets, but it is not impossible. I have worked at the hospital for the past two years, and while it has not been without its challenges, it has been a good experience overall. Good luck.

You can try Ocean Terrace Condos (340-773-6901) as they may take small cats and dogs. Also try Easterly Apts (340-642-2831). These are in the same neighborhood and would be about 10-15 minutes from the hospital and close to Christiansted.

Once again, thanks for the good info. I'm hoping to make this move in June or July and am planning to sign a year long lease where ever I end up living. Much to do on this end as far as renting or selling my 2100 sq. ft. house. Can't really make the move while still being responsible for this mortgage as well as rent on the island. Since I'm planning on bringing transportation I don't have to live right next to the hospital, I guess distance is all relative when living on a small island. As far as the pets go, I can certainly understand an owners reluctance to take in animals but I'm very willing to pay a pet deposit. I would REALLY like to further communicate with
"bnk 1227" as you have experienced what I'm hoping to do. Please feel free to contact me through my e-mail address.

If ocean terrance or dr d don't have any opening I would focus your home search more towards a apt attached to a house or a house. Private owners will be more likely to be accepting of the pets. The majority of the condos on the island do not take any pets, although in most you can get a way with a cat. Depending where you are coming from your money may get you more then you thought or as in most cases will get you a little less. Just remember the island motto when looking for a home (or doing anything) persistence and patience and don't wait for call backs....call them.

My husband just signed a year lease for a house unfurnished for $900 monthly just up from downtown Cstead. Very likely you can find the same thing.

This is a partial list of all the condo associations and hotels that I have compiled over the last year. Few will not answer, virtually all will not respond to message left, but be persistent and call, call, call and eventually someone may pick up the phone. I can't speak to availabilities, but at least it is a working list. Can anyone add to it?

Hi Jnrhome,

I cannot add to this because I am on STT, but I would like to say that this was a very nice and helpful thing to do. I am sure many will benefit from having this information posted.

🙂

I agree with "Mel", thanks to all for your information, there's nothing like having input from the folks who know!
