Okay, we are reading and listening to all the advice here. Thank you all.
We have a pre-move visit scheduled for the third week of April. We have been looking at housing (what we can see on-line with realtors) and it seems that St. Croix is much cheaper for accomodations - i.e. condos, than St Thomas. Is that correct?
We plan on going to both islands, but what are your thoughts of the differences of the 2 islands ? My guess is that St Croix is slower, and less job opportunities...?? We've vacationed on STT numerous times, but only visited STX briefly.
Oh wise ones, can you offer up opinions ??

Hello,

St. Croix's real estate is less expensive then St. Thomas. St. John being the highest. St. Croix's prices have been on the rise lately though, as is the case with real estate in the VI in general.

St. Croix has a slower pace then St. Thomas overall, however there are areas of St. Thomas where you can enjoy a slow pace - the whole island doesn't jump to the same beat that Charlotte Amalie does (which is the capital, location of main tourist shopping area). The answer on jobs depends on type of job... ie. there are schools on both islands, more tourist traffic on St. Thomas, St. Croix has a refinery and more agriculture, a university on both, St. Thomas seems to have more attorneys/law offices :)... so there are differences in job opporunties. What field are you looking for?

I have been in customer service for the airline for the past 19 years - so I would definately prefer to stay in that area. I have heard and read a few things about FalconHead Aviation starting a new airline to be up and running by August - I believe based in St Croix, but not sure on that point. (Do you have any more knowledge on that?? I know the man in charge is Zeke Jackson according to the articles I've read.) I have done everything for the airlines- operations, ramp, ticket counter, training, etc. and it is were my heart and passion lie.
My husband is in a career switch, so he is open to alot of things. His passion is beer brewing - he has a bit of experience; also a certified scuba diver, so he is very open.
We are looking forward to arriving April 17th for a week of job & house hunting!

Hello Travelwoman,

Seaborne airlines often has classifieds for job openings in various areas of their operations. They are a Seaplane. Take a look in the Yellow Pages under Airlines and you can view all the ones here. www.viphonebook.com

There are several dive operators on St. Croix if that is where your husband's interest are; he shouldn't have a problem finding something in that area. The Fort Christian Brew Pub is located on St. Croix. They are a micro-brewery/restaurant/bar. Not sure how much they produce and how much is bottled in the states under their label.

Hello Travelwoman,

You are welcome.

St. Thomas.

Ahhhh, the only downfall of being an anonymous entity is I don't get to take up the great offers for drinks, get togethers 🙁 but thank you so much for offering.

All the best with your plans. If you think of other questions be sure to ask. I look forward to reading how your pre-move visit goes, be sure to share any tips/thoughts you come up with during the trip. 🙂
