Hi everyone!
This is my first time posting, but I've been reading the message boards for a little while. I just booked my flights for a pre-move visit December 26-31. A busy week, I know, but I'm a teacher so it's the only week I have off. I was wondering if someone could help me figure out where to stay. I'm 23, so I don't think I'll be able to rent a car. As far as I know, the minimum age is 25, unless anyone knows of a company that will rent one to me. If not, I am looking for a hotel/b&b within walking distance or a short taxi ride of banks, grocery stores, etc.

"Where to stay?" is a popular question. "Which island?" is even more popular.
You're coming during the busiest, most expensive week of the year, and some offices will be closed. Good luck!

Lito: The problem is you won't be able to visit schools. On the other hand...if you were in town at Ronnie's Crystal Palace, you could catch transportation just about every where. An alternative would be Sapphire or that area, as it is on the safari route.

Yep, Suffolk County. Smithtown area. Are you originally from LI too?

I know, I thought of the school thing too. It's unfortunate but there's no way I could leave during school time, especially as a new teacher.
Thanks for the advice about where to stay, I really appreciate it. I actually was considering Crystal Palace, but I wasn't exactly sure if it was in a good spot.

No Problem! 🙂 and I definitely will. I'm certified (in NY) for birth-6th grade as well as birth-6th grade special ed. At this point I am looking into all schools in that range. Thanks for the advice!

Small world!! I moved here from Coram/Smithtown LI! My family lived on STT for 7 years and i have settled on STX. Been here for 2 years now. It hasnt been easy, but there is no other place on this planet where i would rather be. Enjoy your PMV!

Didn't know there were so many.....I'm from Stony Brook, best part of living down here is watching 4 New York on NBC every winter morning and smiling that Im not siting in traffic on the LIE in the dark.
