Hello friends,

I have found a car to purchase from a private party. Can anyone offer advice on the best way to handle the title transfer. Do we go to DMV first? Do we need insurance first? Really appreciate your insights. Also, who do you recommend for car insurance?

thanks!!

You will need the following:
Signed over title (might need to be notarized)
Current registration
Copy of old owners drivers license
Copy of your drivers license
Proof of insurance
(and it probably won't hurt to have a notarized bill of sale)

For a good price on insurance call Hubert @ Island Insurance 340.773.6006

i think the signed over title has to be notarized.

when my hubby had a car given to him he had to go back to the dmv 3 times. each time he went they told him 1 thing he needed that he did not have. he would get that and take it back, then they would say oh you need this. and again the same thing. be prepared for this type of behavior.
