Marcus Christian-Hendrickson, a member of the elite Christian family (Rep. Donna Christian-Christiansen, Judge Almeric Christian, Judge Adam Christian, Dr. Cora Christian, Atty Nesha Christian-Hendrickson, etc) was ambushed and shot while driving home from church services.

This is sad. His dad is a brilliant economist and very nice guy. Marcus is a genius. Let's wish him a speedy recovery.

Thank you for posting, monogram. I was hoping you would post it on this forum, because this tragedy goes back to something you said a few months ago that not all victims are gang members.

And this is the same day that 5 other people were shot after jouvert. This is heartbreaking news for the VI - not just St Croix.

Thanks 😀

Not just non-gang members, but many are supremely-educated young people who have represented us at America's finest institutions and scholastic competitions.

Get well, Marcus!!!

Very sad. Best wishes for his full recovery and safety.
Seems like the Boat Parade got away without violence but other events and places were marred, once more, by fights and more
gun violence.

no one has ever negated the fact that innocent people get shot and sometimes killed. the majority is gang related.

this poor man was ambushed-why?

I hope - and don't hope at the same time - that it was mistaken identity.

That the thugs saw his vehicle and thought it was someone else, without checking the license plate to be sure.

I say hope because then that means a good guy was not shot at intentionally.

However at the same time I don't hope that, because that means that anyone of us could be shot at these days, if our car were to match that of a criminal who is being targeted.

Group ambushes are usually well planned over a period of time.

6 months in and I have met my first gun voilence victim.
We met Marcus and his sister at a slow down dinner. Both wonderful and friendly people.
They made us feel so welcome. This is horrible. And the virgin islands free press article by John McCarthy is despicable.

Right. 5 people were shot BEFORE Jouvert, not afterwards as I pointed out.

My point was that in a very short period of time, 6 people were shot.

i do not know anything of this man or family, but we must remember that even people from good families and those that go to church can and have been involved with bad stuff

While your statement can be true, that is not the case in this situation. I do know the family and have met Marcus....he is friends of friends. I have heard, mistaken identity.

Right. Marcus is a saint. The guy was literally coming home from church. Why won't we allow local victims to just be victims? Why must they have been involved in "bad stuff?"

I think I'll pass on the Christmas Carnival and Adult Parade stuff this year. At this rate, the chance of a shot em up looks pretty high.

Why so defensive? speee1dy simply made a general observation and of course that not only "can be true" but is true. There was not even an insinuation that this young man was engaged in anything criminal or underhand.

A shame but unfortunately not unusual and one can't generalize that it has "come to this". 1985 or '86 on St Thomas saw the infamous, "Rabbit" carnival song which segued via a few hooligans into, "Kill The White Rabbit" and disrupted the festivities with violence. Many people stayed away from carnival for a few years thereafter - but the majority continued on enjoying it all.

My father, who comes from a very tough ethnic (white, but traditionally penalized) working-class background and has no patience for "safe spaces" or shrinking violets and raised me the same way, is now expressing concern for my safety here. I told him that I'm more worried about my friends than myself. They have to move around a lot more than I do on the island and now I am worried about them.

He stated that all it's going to take is a a gang gunfight gone wrong and hitting tourists for St. Croix to be ended as a tourist destination, and that we'd better be praying for Arclight to work out. Yeah, he's been following the news from here. /sigh

http://viconsortium.com/featured/four-shot-between-monday-afternoon-and-tuesday-morning-on-st-croix/

As 4 more people get shot between Monday and Tuesday.
That makes 9 shootings in 5 days. WTF?

CAHS got locked down today with multiple police cars responding.
Nothing as to the cause as yet. A friend in states emailed me that he'd heard about it before I did.

So much for Peace on Earth, etc.
Y'all stay safe!

Add another one.

http://viconsortium.com/virgin-islands-2/man-escape-gunfire-in-frederiksted-two-vehicles-damaged/

"Between Monday and Tuesday, five people were shot on St. Croix. Last Sunday night, a man was gunned down, his body riddled with bullets, in St. Thomas. And last Friday, five men were shot on St. Croix — a total of eleven shooting victims in four days."

For some perspective, the referenced shootings below have taken place in a geographically small area as well.

Gangs, drugs and guns.
