Evening,

Just a quick question. We are moving to the island in a few weeks and are trying to decide whether or not to bring our gas grill. Are propane tanks readily available and of reasonable cost?

Thanks!

Yes, they're readily available. Last time I refilled a 20# tank in July, it was $20.

You didn't say which island. But on St Croix you can buy your own tank or use one of the "Blue Rhino" type tank exchange services.

I have my own tanks and have them filled at St Croix Gas on Hess Road. The cost is $20.

If you have a really great top of the line grill that you are emotionally attached too - then bring it. Otherwise just buy one when you get here. Grills just don't last down here. Most of the internals are made of cheap metal and rust out within 2 years or so. Make sure you know how to obtain replacment parts before deciding to ship. As others have said, tanks are no problem to obtain, swap, or refill.

What Islandhops says is very important. I use three all stainless steel Magma grills and every year I am buying some replacement part. The burners are steel and last 2-3 years, but even the s/s inner shells, grills, and radiant domes rot out over time. Plus the wall brackets break at the welds. The tropics are hard on items, even before you add heat or electricity to the mix to really get things going.

Wow - I've never been accused of saying anything very important before. 😎
