Just wondered if St. Thomas has a web site in which the property tax records can be accessed? (also owners names and addresses)
I am looking for addresses of owners of Saphire Condos and / or Bolongo Bay condos....I spent a week in St. Thomas last week...and somehow enjoyed relaxing tooo much....I should have went and checked out the "public records" when I was there. (I am assuming I could have accessed them?) Feedback would be appreciated.

No, St Thomas does not have a web site where property taxes can be accessed.

Hi Sheela,
If you don't mind my asking... why are you looking for addresses of owners?

Sheela,

When property owners in the USVI wish to sell their property they must provide the government with receipts indicating that they paid all their property taxes each year they owned the property. Only then will the government permit transfer of ownership. Island property tax record keeping does not mirror that of most stateside property tax record offices.

I understand that my name is tied to the property that I own but like most island residents my mail is not delivered to my house and I hope the government does not share my mailing address with the public.

Sorry...didn't mean to worry anyone...here in my township I can pull up the tax roll and search by name or address on-line. So if I am interested in knowing if anyone in a particular area may be interested in selling their home, I can drop them a note. It is helpful also in comparing tax assessments.
I was looking to contact some condo owners in St.Thomas to see what their experiences had been with renting out, mgmt companies, assoc. fees, etc.... as we were looking to purchase down there.
Thanks,
Sheela

The tax assessor's office can give you the info you are seeking, as it is a matter of public record. It may be that not everyone at the office will cooperate with your request, but then again they might. How you approach them and their mood that day will both play a part.

Another way to find out owners' experience with rental companies, etc. is to visit the condo complexes you like and strike up a conversation with people around the pool and on the beach, etc. Some will be owners and will often be glad to chat with you. Some long-term tenants can also give you insight about renting at the different complexes. It can be good to hear both sides, as an owner eager to sell might just tell you everything is wonderful even if they have had problems with some aspect of their ownership that contribute to their willingness to sell.
