Sago Cottage is for sale. As a matter of fact it looks like the Bierley's are selling all three "Calabash Cottages".

I can't speak for the other 2, but I've stayed in Sago. It is a perfect vacation hideaway for 2. One large room, with an elevated area for the bed off to one side. Living/dining area and a kitchen off the dining room. The bathroom has a toilet and sink -- the shower is a garden shower and is outside next to the hot tub. No A/C when we were there. There is parking for 2 cars. and is up the road from Calabash Boom - a killer road last time I was there, maybe it's better now. I think the lot must be pretty small, very steep and very nicely landscaped with mature plantings.

It has a wraparound porch that has a million dollar view of the East end and Haulover Bay. Or to be exact, $1,100,000.

Anyone who is interested in property values on STJ should go to the website - google calabash cottages st john - and take a look. It will be a sobering experience.

Linda,
I think that you and Ric should by that for your vacation home. You need a get away place from the rat race on STX. LOL.

Hubby and I got married on STJ in 2004 and stayed in Windwardside cottage (there were other guests at the larger Windwardside house, but we felt as if we were alone as they were situated very well for privacy from each other).

The cottage was a studio, lovely queen bed with mosquito netting, apt. size kitchenette, bathroom and gorgeous outside shower that led to a hot tub.

The road was rough so definitely needed 4x4, which we had. Our only complaints were that it was REALLY hot, no breeze (needed one of those nice bedroom A/C units to sleep at night) and the hot tub should have been a plunge pool. We are both from the South (NC and FL) so we are used to heat/humidity but it was uncomfortable.

Lovely place, though. Enjoyed our stay otherwise. We were there in late May/early June...

I can't imagine how Sago Cottage can be worth $1.1 million dollars. Even if you CLEARED $1,000 in rent each and every month, it would take 20 years to break even. Or am I missing something.

And Terry, why don't we go halfsies? LOL

Linda: The value is probably in the land. New owner will tear it down and put up a 3 story (plus mezzanine) timeshare and have a VLT parlor to help with his expenses! 😉
